MARINA vs. LOS AL MATCH RESCHEDULED MONDAY JAN 30 @ 3pm @Marina HS

Due to inclement weather the games for all 3 levels scheduled for today, Monday Jan 23, have been rescheduled for MONDAY JAN 30TH @3pm.

MARINA MOVES TO SECOND PLACE IN SUNSET LEAGUE

Marina finished the week beating Newport Harbor and Fountain Valley, both at home and with a 3-1 score. Against Newport Harbor, Marina posted all goals in the second half. Sophomore, Kayla Perry hit a high upper-90 shot, off an assist from Diana Schwene to kick the scoring off, followed by a Schwene goal (Vanasse assist) 2 minutes later. Perry later assisted freshman Sydney McCollum, to finalize the 3-1 score. Goalkeeper Arianna Sisson recorded 10 saves.

The scoring frenzy continued against Fountain Valley with senior Shannon Butler finishing a beautiful header from Junior Colette Allegre's corner kick. Perry scored again and finished the first half with a distant shot, off a settled pass from sophmore midfielder, Sami Swanson. Midway through the 2nd half Freshman Senna Brennan scored off a perfectly placed direct kick in the high, back side-netting to settle the scrore at 3-1. Sisson posted 4 saves against Fountain Valley.

Marina moved into second place in the Sunset League after this win.
Marina plays Edison away on Tuesday, Jan 17 at 4:45pm and will host Huntington Beach HS on Thursday, Jan 19 at 3pm.

MARINA BLANKS LAGUNA BEACH 4-0

Marina Girls Soccer received a long overdue win in Friday's matchup against Laguna Beach. In the first half, the team struggled to connect and had few opportunities in the first 15 minutes. However, rhythm was found and the team pressed up the field attacking as a unit. Finally, a counter attack began from the back and worked it's way thru the center and outside mids. Freshman forward, Sydney McCollum, received the ball from a midfield connection and sent a driven cross along the ground where Sami Swanson (So.) connected with a one-touch shot in the back of the net to put the Vikings on the board. Eight minutes later, Sydney McCollum received a pass from Kayla Perry (So.) in the middle of the field where she then turned to beat several defenders and put the ball in the far corner's side netting, making the score 2-0 at the half. Perry rounded up the goal scoring in the second half with 2 fantastic goals; both from outside of the 18, one a rebounded shot off Brooke Aiau that Perry collected, dribbled to beat a player and ripped the shot from outside of the box. Junior goalkeeper, Kasha Rusch, played 45 minutes and had 3 saves while senior Arianna Sisson played 15 miuntes and had 1 save. The Vikings played a clean organized game and are looking to continue their success.
